TEMPE, Ariz. --- The Cal State Northridge softball team (0-5) lost 8-0 in six innings to No. 8 Arizona Sunday afternoon at Farrington Stadium as part of the Kajikawa Classic. Jessica Fridwall, Alyssa Ray and Adrienne Martinez had base hits for the Matadors, but the Wildcats jumped out to an early lead and eventually posted the run-rule victory.
Ray collected her third double of the year to start the fifth inning. That frame proved to be CSUN's most threatening, as Ray eventually moved up to third and Abby Linn walked, for the second time, and stole second. But the threat ended on a groundout to conclude the inning.
Martinez collected her first career hit in the contest, a two-out single to left field in the top of the fourth.
Arizona scored four runs, two of which were unearned, in the bottom of the first inning of CSUN starter Alexa Limon. She nearly got out of bases load jam with only two runs allowed, but an error in the field brought in two additional runs.
Mia Pagano replaced Limon in the circle and was effective in keeping Arizona from doing further damage. Although she wound up giving three earned runs and seven hits, nearly all that damage came in the fifth inning.
The Matadors return to action on Feb. 17-19 at the UNLV Louisville Slugger Desert Classic in Las Vegas, Nev.
