QuestionThe collegiate track & field season is over for 2008, but for three Matador student-athletes, the next stop is the United States Olympic Trials (June 27-July 6, Eugene, Oregon). How proud are you of their accomplishments in 2008?
 
Answer "Very proud. One of our goals this year was to get a school record number of athletes to the NCAA's which we accomplished. Another goal was to get several athletes to the Olympic Trials. We have the most athletes in Cal State Northridge history to compete for an opportunity to make the U.S. Olympic team.

Men: Nick Delio, Golf
Nick Delio, who recently completed his freshman season at Cal State Northridge, took home the 97th California Amateur Championship on Saturday, June 21 at Lakeside G.C. Delio becomes the third Northridge golfer to win the California Amateur Championship. Former Matadors Jeff Sanday won the title in 1995 and Tim Hogarth won in 1999. Delio is the first Northridge player to win while still in school as Sanday and Hogarth both won after graduating from Northridge.

Women: Lucy Davies, Golf
Senior Lucy Davies fired a two-round 145 and finished tied with Jane Chin after 36 holes. Chin then held on in a playoff to win the Long Beach City Championship on Friday, June 20 at El Dorado Park in Long Beach.Davies, who just completed her senior season for the Matadors, carded a 73 in Thursday's (June 19) opening round and was two shots behind the leaders heading into the final round. She then fired a final round 72 to force a two-ay playoff with Chin who recently graduated from UC Irvine.
