Matadors Forge 1-1 Draw at Cal State Fullerton

FULLERTON, Calif. ---

Kendall Moskal scored her first goal of the season and the Cal State Northridge women's soccer team (5-7-1, 0-1-1 Big West) played to a 1-1 draw at Cal State Fullerton in a Big West Conference match at Titan Stadium. In a rematch of the 2012 Big West Tournament Final, CSUN earned an important road point in the quest for a Big West Tournament berth.

The two teams played an even contest Sunday evening, with Fullerton holding a narrow 16-14 edge in shots. Both teams also finished with nine saves in the contest.

In the 36th minute, the Matadors broke through to score the contest's first goal. Moskal made a nice turn off a throw-in from Leandra Walker and sent one off the crossbar and into the netting. The assist was Walker's team-leading fourth helper of the season.

CSUN held on to the lead until Morgan Batcheller headed home a corner kick in the 72nd minute to tie the match. Both teams had good looks at a winner in the overtime periods, but neither produce the goal.

In goal, CSUN's Cynthia Tafoya made nine saves, including seven stops in the second half, to preserve the draw. Walker and Taylor Hobson saw yellow cards, though CSUN had less fouls than Fullerton (12-8).

Sunday marked the third-straight time that CSUN and CSUF played into overtime, with both teams having secured a victory in that stretch. The Matadors continued to play well at Titan Stadium and are now 2-0-1 in their last three trips to Orange County.

Northridge returns home for a pair of Big West Conference matches next week. On Thursday, Oct. 10, the Matadors host Cal Poly at 7 p.m. Then on Sunday, Oct. 13, the Matadors host UC Santa Barbara at 4 p.m. as part of a CSUN Soccer Doubleheader.
