Matadors Post 83-41 Exhibition Victory over Cal State San Marcos

Emily Cole scored 15 and Cinnamon Lister finished with 14 as the Cal State Northridge women's basketball team defeated Cal State San Marcos 83-41 Friday night at The Matadome. CSUN held the Cougars without a field goal for the first nine minutes of the contest and forced 33 CSUSM turnovers that the Matadors converted into 31 points.
In their first contest of the 2013-14 season, the Matadors displayed an aggressive mindset while flexing their depth. Thirteen players saw the floor Friday night and 12 Matadors scored in the victory. Northridge shot 45.2 percent (33-of-73) from the field, including a 54.3 percent rate in the second half.
Lister, who sat out last season after transferring from Boise State, was a force throughout the contest. She was 7-of-15 from the field and added four assists and a steal in 19 minutes. Her fellow starting guard Ashlee Guay posted eight points, three assists and two steals in 17 minutes of action.
In the front court, Camille Mahlknecht scored all eight of her points in the second half and had a team-high seven rebounds. Playing in her first organized game since high school, Mikayla Thielges had seven points and six rebounds.
The Matadors jumped out to an 11-2 lead to start the contest and never looked back. That lead swelled to 36-17 by halftime. In the second half, Cole scored 13 of her 15 points and had three 3-pointers.
Kimberly Kipp led CSUSM with nine points as the Cougars shot an even 25 percent (14-of-56) from the field.
The Matadors officially open the season next Friday (Nov. 8) with a road game at Sacramento State. Tip off is slated for 5 p.m.
