NORTHRIDGE, Calif. ---

The Cal State Northridge women's basketball team (14-15, 8-9 Big West) defeated Cal State Fullerton 72-44 Thursday evening in a Big West Conference contest at The Matadome. Janae Sharpe scored 16 points and Randi Friess just missed a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds as the Matadors never trailed in winning their fifth-straight over the Titans.

As the race for seeding in the Big West tightens with each game, the Matadors came out of the gates firing Thursday night. CSUN built leads of 6-0 and 12-4 early in the contest and were never really threatened by Cal State Fullerton.

Leading 28-18 at halftime, CSUN shot a blistering 70.8 percent (17-of-24) from the field and 75 percent (6-of-8) from 3-point range in the second half. For the game, Northridge finished at 57.1 percent (28-of49) from the field, its best shooting performance of the season.

Sharpe led all scorers with 16 points, finishing two shy of her season high. She added six rebounds and three assists in 33 minutes of action.

Friess tied a career high with her nine boards, knocked down two 3-pointers and dished out three assists. Ashlee Guay was the third CSUN player in double-figures, posting 15 points to go with five assists, four rebounds and two steals.

Northridge won the rebounding battle 45-25 and carried a 36-18 advantage in points in the paint. The Titans became sixth Matador opponent to finish under 50 points this season.

Cal State Fullerton finished at 27.1 percent from the field (16-of-59) and 16.7 percent (3-of-18) from 3-point range. No Titans finished with double-figures in points.

The Matadors close out the 2012-13 regular season with a 4 p.m. contest against UC Riverside on Saturday, Mar. 9. Following the contest, CSUN will honor its three seniors (Violet Alama, Jianni Jackson, Felicia Walker) playing in their final game at The Matadome.
