Matadors Complete Comeback, Defeat UC Davis 63-60

NORTHRIDGE Calif. --- The Cal State Northridge women's basketball team (16-10, 10-3 Big West) defeated UC Davis 63-60 Saturday afternoon in a Big West Conference match up at The Matadome. Jasmine Erving led all players in scoring and finished with 24 points and two blocks.

Trailing by 15 with 10 minutes to play, the Matadors turned up the aggression on both ends of the floor. In the end, CSUN outscored UC Davis 33-15 over the final 10 minutes of the game.

After a shot by UCD's Samantha Meggison gave them a 10 point lead, Violet Alama hit the Matadors' only three to start Northridge's rally. Freshmen Jessica Duarte then came up with four points and Erving scoring a pair cut the lead to three with 5:52 left in game.

Duarte then hit a jumper to tie the game 53-53. At the other end of the court, Erving came up with a steal and fed a streaking Duarte for an easy lay-up to give CSUN the lead 55-53. From there, the Matadors would build their lead to as many as seven before UC Davis tried to rally itself.

Erving was a force inside all afternoon for CSUN, finshing 9-of-13 from the field. She added two blocked shots and recorded the 600th field goal of her career.  Duarte finished the day with 11 points, all in the second half, and added four rebounds.

Down by six points at halftime, the Matadors fell into a hole and sent the Aggies to the line for their first seven points. UC Davis would build its lead to 15 points after a few 3-pointers with 10 minutes left in the game.

The beginning of the game looked even until the UC Davis went on a 10-0 run with less than 10 minutes to play in the first half. The Matadors snapped the run with an Alama bucket at 10:28, which started a Northridge 9-0 run to bring them within one. However, UC Davis made a buzzer beater to end the half and would take a 29-23 lead into the locker room.
