Matadors Conclude Indoor Season at MPSF Indoor Championships

SEATTLE, Wash. - Cal State Northridge men's and women's track & field is in the homestretch of the 2012 indoor track season as the Matadors completed competition at the MPSF Indoor Championships at Dempsey Indoor on Saturday.

In one of their final indoor meets, which head coach Avery Anderson is using to prepare the Matadors for the outdoor season, Northridge earned 11 points on the women's side and nine points on the men's side.

Michael Woodham had the best finish of any Matador competing as the senior finished second in the 60 meter hurdles. Woodham ran 8.03 in the prelims before clocking a lifetime-best 7.99 in the final to grab second place and eight points. Woodham's time isjust .08 off Anthony Brown's Northridge indoor record set in 2006.

Tucker Weathers picked up the other point on the men's side with an eighth-place finish in the shot put with a season-best throw of 53-7.50 (16.34).

The women received scoring performances from Ese Ntekume and Stella Dugall in the triple jump, Tiana Webberley in the pole vault and Olympia Jewett in the pentathlon.

Ntekume jumped 39-10 (12.14) to finish fourth in the triple jump while Dugall was just behind in seventh-place with a season-best mark of 39-9.25 (12.12).

Webberley also posted a season-best as she vaulted 12-10.75 (3.93) to finish in a sixth-place tie. Her height improves on her second place ranking in Northridge indoor history as she trails only Krystal Quinn who cleared 13-1 during the 2008 indoor season.

Jewett completed the pentathlon with a season-best point total of 3,655 which was good for sixth-place in the MPSF and three points.

Other solid performances for the women included Jackie Harrison and Jasmine Cox in the 400 meters. Harrison ran 55.09 to finish just outside the scoring in 10th place while Cox was 13th in 56.20. Briana Davis (7.78) and Leshel Vines (7.69) each posted season-bests in the 60 meters and Davis also ran a season-best 25.31 in the 200 meters.

On the track for the men, Kenneth Stone posted a season-best time of 22.32 in the 200 meters, Khalid Jones ran a season-best 48.84 in the 400 meters and Hunter Hays posted season-bests of 1:57.51 in the 800 meters and 4:17.12 in the mile.

Donovan Toban posted a personal-best point total of 5,087 in the pentathlon to finish in the top-10 while Derrick Harris (4,925) was 13th and Kevin Finley (4,251) was 20th.
