Basketball Practice Opens At Cal State Northridge

Northridge, Calif. – Get ready. Matador Basketball jusst around corner.

The 2012-13 Cal State Northridge men's basketball varsity has started practice in preparation for the Nov. 9 season opener vs Pepperdine at The Matadome.

Eighteen players comprise the roster that includes the return of its three top scorers (Stephan Hicks, Josh Greene, Stephen Maxwell) and its top two rebounders (Hicks and Maxwell). Hicks (6-5, 190, Guard/Forward, RS Sophomore) gained Big West Freshman of the Year honors in 2011-12 based on his 15.1 points and 7.1 rebounds per game average. Greene (6-0, 180, Guard, Junior) averaged 12.4 ppg. Hicks and Greene gained Honorable Mention All-Big West Conference honors last year.

Maxwell (6-7, 220, Forward, Sophomore) will also be a pivotal figure in the team's success this year. Maxwell averaged 8.6 points and 6.4 rebounds per game.

This will again be a young team. There are NO seniors. Seven players are either true freshman or redshirt freshman.

The 55th season of Cal State Northridge men's basketball promises to be just as competitive and exciting as the previous 54 years. Three Pac-12 Conference teams (UCLA, Arizona State, Utah), a game at Brigham Young (BYU), and the addition of Hawai'i to the Big West Conference calendar are just a few of the highly competitive games that are on the 2012-13 CSUN docket.

In all, Cal State Northridge will host 13 regular season home games at the newly refurbished Matadome. New baskets and shot clocks have been installed as well as new press row tables, video display boards, a scoreboard above center court, and wall graphics. With a brand new floor and a redesigned court, the Matadome has received a dramatic overhaul just in time for the 50th anniversary of the first home game played in the facility this November.

The Big West Tournament is slated for March 14-16 at the Honda Center in Anaheim.
