Matadors Come Up Empty in Home Loss to Titans, 3-0
10/22/2025 10:17:00 PM | Men's Soccer
NORTHRIDGE, Calif -- Despite generating 22 shots and controlling possession for much of the night, CSUN couldn't find the back of the net in a 3–0 loss to Cal State Fullerton on Wednesday at Matador Soccer Field.
The Titans (8–4–5, 5–1–1 Big West) built a two-goal lead in the opening period and never looked back, extending their strong conference form while handing the Matadors (6–5–5, 1–4–2) their fourth loss in league play.
Ulises Grado opened the scoring in the 25th minute after collecting a deflection near the top of the box and weaving through defenders before slotting home his third goal of the season. Defender Avery Huggins doubled the advantage eight minutes later, cleaning up a loose ball in front of goal following a corner kick from Jose de la Torre and a touch by Julian Borja.
CSUN's hopes of a comeback were severely hampered late in the first half when the Matadors were reduced to 10 men. Axel Agurcia received a red card in the 40th minute, and just two minutes later, head coach Terry Davila was ejected for unsporting behavior after a yellow card moments earlier.
CSUN outshot the Titans 22–19 and earned an 11–8 edge in corner kicks, but goalkeeper Asger Hemmer made five saves to record the shutout for Fullerton.
Grado added his second goal in the 61st minute, finishing a through ball from de la Torre on a breakaway for his team-leading fourth goal of the year.
CSUN keeper Dorian Drucks tallied two saves in 90 minutes. Zack Harris led the Matadors with four shots, including two on target.
