CSUN Track Wins 4 Times At Triton Invitational

LA JOLLA, Calif.—The CSUN men's and women's track and field teams won four times as the squads competed at the UC San Diego Triton Invitational Apr. 13-14.
MEN'S RECAP
Louis Pancotti won the Friday men's open pole vault as he cleared 15-5. Logan Cantrell tied for fourth (14-5 1/4) with Nicolas Mendoza of Cal Poly Pomona.
Clint Meyer won the men's open shot put with a toss of 60-1. His mark was the sixth best in school history and is the 30th longest in Division I this season.
Matthew Arnold was victorious in the triple jump. He went 49-2 1/4. Arnold placed 10th in the long jump (21-4 1/4).
Joshua Turner was third (48-0) and would also come home fifth in the 110m hurdles (:14.54).
Erick Loomis reset his own school record in the hammer throw as he posted a toss of 223-11 to earn a second-place finish. Loomis' performance is the 13th best in Division I this season.
Parker Caston Jr. was third in the 400m, going :48.01 in the race. Michael Merchan earned a fifth in the 800m (1:52.43). Mario Ramirez placed sixth in the 1500m as he ran a time of 3:51.45. Daniel Swarbrick came home eighth in the discus (174-5). Ben Hibbert (:15.06) was 10th in the 100m hurdles.
The 4x100m relay of Caston Jr, Chazz Warren, T'Jari Packard, and Hibbert came in fourth in a time of :41.18. The 4x400m relay of Warren, Packard, Hibbert, and Caston Jr were fifth as the team posted a time of 3:19.59.
CSUN finished third in the team scoring race (77.5). Grand Canyon (141.5) was the team winner.
WOMEN'S RECAP
Elena Lopez won the women's open shot put when she turned in a toss of 49-9.
De'Andreah Young ran the fourth fastest 400m hurdle time in school history, :59.28, to earn second place. Young also turned in a fourth-place showing in the 400m as she ran :55.53.
Taranique Alexander was the runner-up in the long jump as she posted a leap of 19-9 1/4. Gardena Centanario finished third in the women's invitational pole vault. She cleared 12-9 1/2 in the event. Brandy Willimas came in third in the invitational shot put (51-0). Beth Rossi was fourth in the women's invitational pole vault as he went 12-3.
Sydney Mosley (:13.83) and Courtney Robinson (:13.88) were third and fourth respectively in the 100m hurdles. Samantha Michell was 10th in the 100m hurdles (:14.27). Mosley later came home fifth in the 200m (:24.88) and seventh in the 100m dash (:12.01). Michell finished sixth in the 400m hurdles (1:01.18). Jasmine Pharms finished fifth in the invitational shot put (48-3 1/4). Sydney Berry placed eighth in the long jump (19-0 1/2).
Team scoring was conducted for the meet. The CSUN women finished second (97.5). Grand Canyon (109) was the team winner.
"The Triton Invitational has been our best overall meet of the outdoor season," said CSUN interim head coach Lawrence Johnson. "We added seven more Big West Championship qualifiers to our totals and had some significant improvement in most of our NCAA regional marks. I'm very proud of the effort of our student-athletes and I'm looking forward to next week's challenges."
The Matadors are scheduled to compete in the Mt. SAC Relays, the UC Irvine Steve Scott Invitational, and the Long Beach State Invitational next week.
