Northridge, CA – CSUN Athletics and Interim Head Track & Field Coach Lawrence Johnson have announced that Monica Hargrove has joined the CSUN Track & Field program as an Assistant Coach. Hargrove, who brings the Matadors extensive experience as an international athlete and fitness consultant, will work with CSUN's sprinters.
Â
"I am honored to be named an Assistant Coach at CSUN and I want to thank Coach Johnson and the university for this opportunity," said Hargrove. "I'm thrilled to use my experience as a professional athlete to inspire and encourage the student-athletes at CSUN to reach high levels of success on and off the track."
Â
Hargrove has spent the past seven years as a personal trainer and fitness consultant based in Los Angeles and Atlanta, working with elite and collegiate athletes across various sports. Prior to that, she was an Assistant Track & Field Coach at Indiana University, where she helped rebuild the program, which culminated in the team winning the Big Ten Championship during Hargrove's final year with the program.
Â
Hargrove graduated from Georgetown University with a bachelor's degree in psychology and Dean's List honors. While a student-athlete, she was named a three-time All-American and to the NCAA and Big East All-Academic Teams. For the Hoyas, she specialized in the 200m and 400m races and was a member of the National Champion 4x400m relay in 2002. She also won an Indoor Championship in the 500m in 2003.
Â
Following graduation, Hargrove competed internationally in the sprint events. Among her many accolades, she won a silver medal in the 4x400m relay at the 2006 IAAF World Indoor Championships, a gold medal in the 4x400m relay at the 2014 Indoor Championships and was an Olympic Trials finalist in 2008 and 2012. She was ranked among the top 10 in the world by Track and Field News in 2009. Hargrove was also the first track & field athlete sponsored by Under Armour.
