CSUN Rolls to Victory over Cal State Fullerton

Channon Fluker Posts Fourth-Straight Double-Double
NORTHRIDGE, Calif. --- The CSUN women's basketball team (5-16, 3-4 Big West Conference) won its third-straight conference game with a 79-52 victory over Cal State Fullerton Saturday afternoon at The Matadome. Freshman Channon Fluker posted her fourth-straight double-double, finishing with 21 points, 14 rebounds, as the Matadors used big scoring runs at the start of both halves to keep the game out of reach.
CSUN jumped out to a quick start Saturday in posting its 10th-straight win over the Titans. Sophomore Katelin King set a new season high quickly with three 3-pointers in the game's opening minutes and CSUN led 11-0 before Cal State Fullerton got on the scoreboard.
With the score 15-7 in CSUN's favor, the Matadors reeled off a 25-8 run over the end of the first period and the beginning of the second. CSUN led 40-25 at that point and eventually took a 50-28 lead into halftime. The Matadors shot 51.3 percent (20-of-39) from the field over the opening 20 minutes and Fluker had 13 points and six rebounds at the break.
The Matadors scored the first 13 points of the second half to build a 63-28 lead with 5:43 to play. CSUN out-scored Cal State Fullerton 17-13 in the frame and led 67-39 after 30 minutes of action. Cal State Fullerton narrowly took the fourth period, 13-12, but Nautica Morrow knocked down two 3-pointers in the frame to give her 12 points for the game.
Fluker has emerged as a powerful interior player since the calendar changed to 2016. Saturday she finished 10-of-13 from the field and added a career-high five blocked shots. For the week, she averaged 27.5 points and 13.5 rebounds while shooting 25-of-35 (71.4 percent) in victories over UC Irvine and Cal State Fullerton. She is averaging 10.7 points and 8.1 rebounds per game while shooting 45.8 percent from the field for the season.
Morrow was second on the team with 12 points and added an assist and a steal in 18 minutes off the bench. Freshman Cheyenne Allen finished with 11 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the field and also had three rebounds, two assists and two steals in 25 minutes. Senior Jasmine Johnson had nine points, eight rebounds, three assists and was perfect 5-of-5 from the free throw line.
Junior Emily Cole dished out a career-high four assists to go with eight points and five rebounds. Sophomore Tessa Boagni came off the bench to grab 10 rebounds to go with four points and two assists. King had a season-high nine points and a career-high five assists in the win.
CSUN finished at 42.7 percent (32-of-75) from the field and 25 percent (9-of-36) from 3-point range. The Matadors grabbed 51 rebounds and had 22 assists to just seven turnovers. Behind Fluker, CSUN got 36 points in the paint and had 19 second-chance points. The Matadors' bench chipped in 21 points as a group.
The Matadors return to action with two road games in Big West Conference action. On Feb. 4, CSUN faces Long Beach State at the Walter Pyramid at 7 p.m. Two days later, CSUN travels for a contest at UC Riverside that will be broadcast on ESPN3.
