Matador Women Finish Eighth, Men 11th at Irvine Invitational

IRVINE, Calif. - Lilyana Morejon finished fourth in 17:31.8 to lead the Cal State Northridge women to an eighth-place finish at the Irvine Invitational. The Matador men were 11th in the first meet of the 2010 season.

Morejon paced the Matador women by running 17.31.8 which was good enough for a season-best fourth place. Also for the women's squad, Zitlalic Ley came in 26th in a time of 18:32.4, Araceli Zainos, running her first race for the Matadors, was 48th in 19:10.3, Yvonne Castillo-Urbina was 70th in 19:50.6, Fany Alvarado, also in her first collegiate race, was 92nd in 20:20.4, Ana Rosales was 93rd in 20:21.8, Mallory Day was 99th in 20:39.0, Ariana Gomez was 112th in 21:13.6, Natalie Wollaston was 120th in 22:58.6 and Desiree Karotko was 122nd in 23:49.9.

As a team, Northridge was eighth with 196 points, finishing in a total time of 1:35:25.50 and an average time of 19:05.10.

For the men, Juan Olea was the top finisher in 34th place in a time of 26:09.2. Hunter Hays ran 26:12.9 to finish 39th, Gustavo Hernandez ran 27:20.8 to finish 102nd, Michael McEvoy, also running his first race for CSUN, was 115th in 27:37.4, Marvin Gonzales ran 28:51.7 to finish 162nd, Masis Hagobian was 169th in 28:56.8, Daniel Garcia was 193rd in 29:38.7, Eduardo Garcia finished 213th in 31:16.2 and Miguel Galvez was 227th in a time of 33:04.2.

In finishing 11th, the Matador men accumulated 323 points and had a total time of 2:16:12.00 and an average time of 27:14.40.
