IRVINE, Calif. - In their second cross country meet of the season, the Cal State Northridge men and women both placed 12th at the Asics/UC Irvine Invitational at the Anteater Recreation Center.
In the women's 5k, Fany Alvarado was the Matadors' top finisher for the second straight meet. Alvarado, who was 14th at the Fullerton Invitational last week, finished 54th at UC Irvine in a time of 19:06.2. Yvonne Castillo-Urbina was next in 61st place in a time of 19:09.2 and Araceli Zainos was 140th in 20:43.3. Vanessa Carr, running in her first meet of the season was 141st in 20:43.4, Shane Mullany-Banks finished 148th in 20:54.5, and Annalise Lopez placed 172nd in 22:27.3.
As a team, CSUN accumulated 391 points and posted an average time of 20:07.32
In the men's 8k race, Hunter Hays was the top Matador finisher as he finished 72nd in a time of 27:11.0. Marvin Gonzales, also making his 2011 debut, was 95th in 27:41.7 while Cesar Lopez was 108th in 27:54.8. Tawei Ma was just behind Lopez in 111th in 27:56.8 and Julio Mora was 115th in 28:11.6. Masis Hagobian and Steven Gonzales also ran in their first races of 2011 with Hagobian placing 135th (29:37.4) and Gonzales finishing 136th (30:26.4).
As a team, the Northridge men had 362 points while running an average time of 27:47.18.
