Westchester, Calif. - Cal State Northridge suffered its third straight loss, this time a 10-8 decision at eighth-ranked Loyola Marymount in a non-conference women's water polo game on Thursday afternoon at the Burns Aquatic Center.
Heidi Pettinger gave the Matadors a 1-0 lead at the 6:50 mark in the first period, but two straight goals gave the Lions a lead they relinquished.
Loyola Marymount led by as many as four goals, 8-4, with 6:19 remaining in the third period, but Cal State Northridge, ranked 15th in the nation, mounted a rally. Three unanswered goals cut the LMU lead to 8-7, including Melissa Doll's goal with 1:15 to play in the quarter on a 6-on-5 attack.
But Loyola Marymount pushed back with a pair of goals to take a 10-7 lead. Lindsy Nelson added a goal for the Matadors on a 6-on-5 attack with 23 seconds left in the game.
Nelson, Pettinger and Sydney Sonoda each scored two goals.
