Davis, Ca. – Seventh-ranked Cal State Northridge got back on the winning track on a sunny Sunday afternoon with a 10-7 victory over 15th-ranked UC Davis in the Big West Conference opener at the Schaal Aquatics Center.
The second period has proved to be the defensive fortress for the Matadors in the last two games. In Saturday's game at fourth-ranked California, the Matadors held the Golden Bears SCORELESS. In Sunday's game at UC Davis, CSUN's defense held the Aggies SCORELESS in the second period.
UC Davis led CSUN, 4-3, after the first period, but a 3-0 CSUN comeback in the second stanza gave Cal State Northridge a 6-4 lead at halftime. Marisa Young propelled CSUN's comeback with two of her team-high four goals.
Cal State Northridge maintained its two-goal advantage after three periods, 8-6.
Young added an insurance goal with 6:59 to play to give the Matadors a 9-6 lead.
The victory raised CSUN's season record to 20-6 and 1-0 in the conference. UC Davis fell to 11-13 overall, and 0-2 in league play.
