Matador Dynamic Duo Earns AVCA Honorable Mention All-America Honors

SEATTLE, Wash. - Cal State Northridge women's volleyball capped a memorable 2013 season by having multiple players earn All-America honors in the same season for the first time since 1988.

Senior Sydney Gedryn and junior Casey Hinger, who each earned first team All-Pacific South Region accolades last week, were both honored on the 2013 AVCA honorable mention All-America Team. The last time a Matador team had multiple players earn All-America honors in the same season was 1988 when Kathleen Dixon (first team), Marianne Dixon (second team) and Karen Langston (second team) were named NCAA Division II All-Americans.

Hinger followed up her honorable mention All-America season in 2012 with the same honor this season. She is the first CSUN Division I player to earn national accolades multiple times in her Matador career. This season she led the 24-7 Matadors in kills, kills per set, points and blocks as CSUN advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history.

Gedryn was honored for the first time in her career as the three-time first team All-Big West setter capped an impressive final season. Gedryn also earned All-Region honors for the first time after helping the Matadors to 24 wins, their first Big West Championship and their first NCAA Tournament berth since 2004. The team leader in assists with 1,175 which ranks 10th in CSUN's single-season history, Gedryn is also one of the Matadors' all-time blocking leaders. She and Hinger combined for 219 total blocks in 2013 and both rank among the top-10 in Matador history. Gedryn also had a team-high 26 aces this season which gives her 79 in her four-year career.

"Being an All-American is certainly a testament to both of these players' ability but it's also a testament to the ability of our coaching staff, especially Susie Terrusa, to identify talent," said CSUN Head Coach Jeff Stork. "It's a recognition to what Syd and Casey have done for this program this season. They are both an important part of this but this has always been about the team and all 15 players contributed to our success this season. Having muliple players earn All-America honors is a definitley a positive sign for the future of this program."
