Natalie Allen Named Big West Player of the Week

IRVINE, Calif. - Cal State Northridge junior opposite Natalie Allen has been named Big West Player of the Week after helping the Matadors to the Fiesta Bowl Tournament championship in Flagstaff, Ariz. last weekend.

In wins over Idaho, San Diego State and Northern Arizona, Allen paced CSUN with 51 kills and 47 digs while also recording 13 total blocks. For the week, the junior from Murrieta, Calif. averaged 3.64 kills, 3.36 digs and 0.93 blocks per set while hitting .342 in 111 attacks. She pounded a career-high 23 kills in CSUN's five-set win over Idaho on Friday.

Allen was named the Fiesta Bowl Tournament MVP for her efforts, the second time in as many tournaments this season she has been named Most Valuable Player. She also garnered the MVP accolades at the season-opening Bulldog Invitational at Fresno State (Aug. 30-31).

"Being named Big West Player of the Week means a lot," said Allen. "But I couldn't have done it without my team. We have been playing really well together and have been able to execute our system. We have all worked hard during every match we have played so and we have the want to play well for each other."

Allen is the first Matador player to earn the weekly conference award since Casey Hinger was honored on Nov, 7, 2011. Hinger was the second CSUN player that season to earn player of the week honors after Mahina Haina on Sept. 5.

Since joining the Big West Conference in 2001, the Matadors have had nine players honored as player of the week.
