Having completed his fifth year as Volunteer Coach for the Matador Women's Tennis team, Zbynek Mlynarik brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to share.The Matadors have posted a 64-46 record in his five seasons and he has helped develop numerous All-Big West award winners in his time.

In addition to his work with the Matadors, Mlynarik served as an assistant coach to CSUN Head Coach Gary Victor on the 2009 the San Fernando Valley Competition Training Center team that won a team championship in the Southern California CTC Team Cup. The title was the San Fernando Valley's first in the history of the event. The team, comprised of children from ages nine to 13, defeated squads from Bakersfield and San Gabriel Valley to reach the semifinals, where they recorded a win against the contingent from San Diego.

In the fall of 2008, Mlynarik won the singles title at the USPTA Championships, defeating No. 2 seeded Adrians Zguns from Orlando, Fla., 7-5, 7-6. He then teamed with CSUN Head Coach Gary Victor to win the doubles crown with a 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 win over No. 1s Marcin Rozpedski and Andrew Scorteanu in the championship match.

He competed on the Professional Tennis Circuit from 1997- 2005 across 6 continents and 37 countries with wins over Marcos Baghdatis, Taylor Dent, Ivo Karlovic, Sam Querry, Jarkko Niemienen, Robert Kendrick, Alex Bogomolov, Alexander Waske, and Kevin Kim.

During these years "Spin" earned his highest ranking of 200 ATP, played the Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon, and the US Open. "Spin" also earned 10 Future titles, 24 Austrian National titles, was a 2- time Austrian Team Champion, Austrian Masters Winner, and Davis Cup Team Member. In 2006, he was named Mr. Bundes Liga MVP and played in the first Division of the Austrian and German Leagues. In 2006, after retiring from the Professional Tour, Zbynek competed in USTA Men's Open tournaments with a record of 31-2, winning four tournaments including "The Ojai" by defeating Sam Querry. Zbynek is certified at Level 1 in PTR and USPTA.

He was named The PTR Male Player of the Year and won The Men's Open Singles and Doubles PTR International Championships for three consecutive years. Zbynek also won the USPTA International Men's Open Singles Championships in 2006 and both Singles and Doubles in 2008- with CSUN's Head Coach, and friend, Gary Victor.

Now dedicated to the development of Junior tennis players, in 2008 Zbynek earned his USTA High Performance Coaching Certificate. He serves on the USTA Junior Tennis Council, participates as a Coach for the USTA Junior Competition Training Center, and works to train and coach young talents in the San Fernando Valley.

Zbynek lives in Chatsworth with his wife Robin, who is also Faculty at CSUN, and his two step- daughters, Alexandra and Analyssa. He and Robin welcomed their son Gavin into the world on May 11, 2009.
