Matadors Fall 6-1 at Hawai'i

HONOLULU ---

The Cal State Northridge women's tennis team (10-10, 4-5 Big West) lost 6-1 to Hawai'i in a Big West Conference match on Saturday, April 13. Senior Maria Pistalu, playing in the final conference match of her career, took a straight-set decision in the No. 1 singles draw to earn the Matadors' only point on the day.

Playing in its second match in as many days in the Hawaiian Islands, the Matadors could not get past the Rainbow Wahine.

Doubles action was especially competitive. Two of the matches went past 15 games and unfortunately, both fell in favor of the host Wahine. Anna Yang and Sabrina Man-Son-Hing lost 9-7 at No. 1 and Jessica Warren and Alexis Marquez fell 9-8 (5) in decisive 17th game at No. 3.

In singles, Pistalu finished strong with a convincing straight-set decision in the top draw. She won 6-3 and 6-0 to win her second-straight contest versus a league opponent. Lorraine Cheung and Warren each suffered tough, three-set losses.

At 4-5 in the Big West, the Matadors look headed for a fifth seed in the upcoming Big West Tournament. The league tournament starts in two weeks, April 25, in Indian Wells, Calif.
