NORTHRIDGE, Calif. ---
Cal State Northridge senior Mia Pagano was named the Big West Conference Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced Monday. Originally from Temecula, Calif., Pagano tossed a complete game in the Matadors' historic victory over UCLA and then added a 6+ innings of relief work with seven strikeouts in a win against CSU Bakersfield.
A 2012 All-Big West Second Team honoree, Pagano worked around nine Bruin hits to give the Matadors a shot they would redeem in the bottom of the seventh. In all, Pagano went 7.0 inning with three strikeouts and two earned runs, none after the first inning, in CSUN's first victory over UCLA since 1998.
The win marked the Matadors' first over a nationally ranked foe and member of the Pac-12 Conference since the 2007 season.
In the second game of a doubleheader against CSU Bakersfield, Pagano entered in the first, averted any damage and allowed just one earned run in 6.1 innings of work. She fanned a season-high seven in the victory, her team-leading fifth of the season.
For the season, Pagano is 5-5 with a 3.15 ERA, 36 K's and a team-high 66.2 innings of work. She ranks among the league's top 10 pitchers in opponent batting average, wins, strikeouts, appearances and innings pitched.
