NORTHRIDGE, Calif. ---
The Cal State Northridge softball team (5-11) lost 4-1 to Idaho State and 2-1 to Fresno State Saturday afternoon in its second day at the Santa Clara Bronco Invitational. CSUN's offense could not keep up with its opponents, managing three hits against the Bengals and four against the Bulldogs.
Northridge actually scored first in both contests. Against Idaho State, Korinne Randazzowas hit by a pitch to start the game and stole second with one out in the first. After a strikeout, she came around to score on an RBI double by Maylynn Mitchell.
The lead was short lived however as the Bengals answered with two runs of their own in bottom of the first on a two-run, two-out double. Idaho State added a solo home run in the bottom of the third and an RBI double in the bottom of the sixth.
The Matadors had some chances to respond, but they popped up three would-be sac bunts which proved too costly. Jennifer Tyler(0-3) lasted 2.1 innings of work and gave up five hits and three earned runs to go with there strikeouts.
Brianna Elder tossed the final 3.2 innings for Northridge and allowed one earned run to go with three K's as well.

Facing the Bulldogs for the third time in the young season, the Matadors jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. After collecting a single with two outs, Mikayla Thielges scored on an RBI double by Sydney House to give CSUN the early advantage.
The score would remain that way until the Bulldogs tied the game in the top of the third with a two-out, RBI triple. Fresno State scored the game-winning run in the top of the top of the sixth inning, stringing a two singles and a stolen base in consecutive at-bats.
Offensively, the Matadors went down in order three times after the first and got a runner to third in the fourth before the frame ended on a strikeout looking.
In the circle, Mia Pagano (1-4) tossed a complete game for CSUN and allowed five hits and two earned runs to go with a strikeout.
CSUN closes out its time in Santa Clara with a single game Sunday against Saint Mary's. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
