NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - The Cal State Northridge women's soccer team (3-5) lost 1-0 in overtime to Kent State Sunday morning at the UNM Nike Classic in Albuquerque, N.M. Vanessa Salerno broke the scoreless tie with the game-wining goal in the 94th minute of action to conclude the game's action and give the Golden Flashes the victory.
Northridge appeared to generate lot of offensive chances, as the team finished with 17 shots, seven of which were on goal. Kelly Sherwood, the Kent State goalkeeper, made four saves in the first half, two in the second half and the team was also credited with a save in the contest.
In net, junior Kellie Drenner made her second start of the season for CSUN. She finished with four saves and faced a total of 14 Kent State shots to take the loss. Sherwood picked up the victory for the Golden Flashes.
In all, CSUN finished with one more corner kick than Kent State (5-4) and also owned a 16-10 edge in fouls for the game. The Kent State bench was shown the yellow card in the 70th minute of action.
The Matadors play a single match in the upcoming week, hosting the University of Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine at Matador Soccer Field on Sept. 18. Kick off is slated for 4 p.m.
