NORTHRIDGE, Calif. --- The Cal State Northridge women's soccer team (6-8-2, 4-2-1 Big West) lost 4-0 to No. 21 UC Irvine Sunday night in a Big West match at Matador Soccer Field. The Anteaters' Natalia Ledezma recorded a hat trick as UCI moved clear of CSUN to the top of the league standings.
UC Irvine controlled the match throughout the 90 minutes. The Anteaters found consistent possession and were constant threats all night.
The early pressure played itself out into an early goal. A UCI player swung in a cross from the right corner that a Matador deflected into the net to give the Anteaters an early 1-0 lead. Ledezma collected her first goal of the contest just over eight minutes later, redirecting a cross on the one-time into the upper corner of the netting.
Ledezma scored twice within 12 minutes in the second half to earn the hat trick. She chipped one over Cynthia Jacobo's head from 35 yards out in the 66th minute. Finally, she collected a free kick from Coco Goodson in the 77th minute and went to the far post for her 11th goal of the year.
For Northridge, Jacobo made six saves in 80 minutes of action. The team was also credited with a save and Haley Hawes played the final 10 minutes and had a stop. Jennifer Randazzo made two saves in 82 minutes to earn the win for UCI.
Offensively, the Matadors finished with 10 shots compared to 14 for UC Irvine. Melissa Fernandez and Brielle Slepicoff had the two shots on target for CSUN. UCI's Judy Christopher and the Matadors' Alexis Barbara were cautioned in the contest.
Northridge will look to regroup in its Big West finale, a match at UC Riverside on Thursday, Oct. 27. Three days later, the Matadors will close out the regular season with a non-conference match against Cal State Bakersfield at Matador Soccer Field with kickoff at 6 p.m.
