Matadors in Fifth Place After Two Rounds at Coast BMW College Challenge

NIPOMO, Calif. - Senior Krystina Gillenwater and sophomore Ashlee Nagamine are both tied for 12th place while Cal State Northirdge sits fifth after two rounds of the Coast BMW College Challenge at Monarch Dunes GC.

As a team, the Matadors carded rounds of 338 and 334 for a two-round score of 672. UC Irvine (611) blistered the course and holds a 30-stroke lead heading into Tuesday's final 18 holes. Cal Poly (641) is second followed by Santa Clara (646), Cal Baptist (660), Northridge and Cal State Bakersfield (686).

Nagamine fired an opening-round 78 (+7) on the par-71 course but struggled to a second round 86 (+15). Nagamine's 78 was the lone round in the 70's for the Matadors in two rounds. Gillenwater posted an opening-round 84 (+13) and came back with an 80 (+9) in round two. Both are tied for 12th-place at 164 (+22) heading into Tuesday's final round.

Also for Northridge, freshman Lady Samson is tied for 17th at 166 (+24) after rounds of 84-82, senior Katrina Sutton is tied for 31st at 178 (+36) after rounds of 92-86 and fellow senior Stephanie Aston is tied for 33rd at 179 (+37) after rounds of 93-86. Freshman Kendall Patton also competed for the Matadors as an individual and is currently 27th after rounds of 89-83 left her at 172 (+30).

UC Irvine's Jane Chin is the individual leader after two rounds with a two-round 145 (+3). Chin holds a nine-stroke lead over teammate Joy Trotter (154).
