Matadors 12th After First Round of Anteater Invitational

DOVE CANYON, Calif. - The Cal State Northridge women's golf team is 12th place after the opening round of the Anteater Invitational. Individually, Lady Samson and Katrina Sutton are both tied for 41st to lead the Matadors.

Northridge carded a team round of 338 and is 12th among the 14-team field. The University of San Francisco leads the tournament after shooting a first round 301. The Dons hold a one-shot lead over Long Beach State (302) and lead Idaho by two (303).

Samson (41-42) and Sutton (40-43) both carded an opening round 83 which was good enough to lead the Matadors on day one. Both players are in 41st place, 11 shots off the pace. Ashlee Nagamine is tied for 50th at (+14) 85 after a 45 on the front nine and 40 on the back nine. Kendall Patton (40-47) is tied for 58th at (16) 87 and Maurissa Medina (48-42) is tied for 69th at (+19) 90.

UC Riverside's Jennifer Bermingham and UC Davis' Chelsea Stelzmiller lead the field with a one-over par 72. UCI's Jane Chin is tied for third, one shot back after carding a 73.

The tournament continues with 18 holes Tuesday beginning with a shotgun start at 9:00 a.m. and 18 holes Wednesday beginning at 8:00 a.m.
