MOORPARK, Calif. - Cal State Northridge struggled to a first round 327 on Tuesday and sits sixth in the six-team Wave Invitational at Moorpark C.C. Monique Huijsman leads the Matadors with a 27th place finish while Individual Maurissa Medina is tied for 24th.
Medina, who has played in just two tournaments this season, opened with a seven over-par 79 on Tuesday and was the only Northridge golfer to break 80. However, she is competing as an Individual who's score won't count towards team scoring.
Huijsman is tied for 27th after an eight-over 80 to lead the Matadors. Krystina Gillenwater is tied for 29th, one shot back of Huijsman at nine-over 81 while Stephanie Aston is tied for 33rd after a first round (+10) 82. Also for Northridge, Katrina Sutton is 39th at (+12) 84 and Ashlee Nagamine is tied for 41st after posting a (+14) 86.
Lady Samson is also competing as an Individual and is tied for 33rd with Aston at 10-over 82.
Host Pepperdine (283) leads second place BYU (294) and UNLV (294) by 11 strokes after the first round. Long Beach State (306) is fourth and New Mexico State (307) is fifth. BYU's Natalia Jimenez is the individual leader after firing a six under-par 66.
