Matador Women's Golf in 15th After Opening Round of Bruin Wave Invitational

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. - The Cal State Northridge women's golf team opened the Spring portion of the 2009-10 season with a first round 317 and is 15th at the Bruin Wave Invitational at Robinson Ranch G.C. Junior Ashlee Nagamine's opening round 77 leads the Matadors.

As a team, Northridge posted a team round of 317 which was good for 15th in the 18-team field. Arizona (283) is the team leader after one round while UCLA and USC are tied for second place (286) with Pepperdine (288) fourth.

Nagamine, who had four top-20 finishes and a pair of tournament wins in the Fall, opened with a (+5) 77 on Monday to lead the Matadors. Nagamine is tied for 49th 10 shots off the lead. Pepperdine's Danielle Kang and Washington's Molly Aronsson share the first round lead at (-5) 67.

Elsewhere for the Matadors, freshman Clariss Guce is tied for 62nd at (+7) 79, freshman Tammy Panich is tied for 71st at (+8) 80, junior Maurissa Medina is tied for 74th at (+9) 81 and freshman Margo Dionisio is tied for 88th at (+12) 84.

The second round will be played on Tuesday at the par-72 Robinson Ranch Golf Club, and the third and final round is on Wednesday. Teams will go off tees #1 and #10 beginning at 8 a.m. on Tuesday. Pepperdine and UCLA are co-hosting the tournament.
