Matadors Conclude Fall Season With Second-Place Finish at Lamkin Grip/Cal Poly Invitational

ARROYO GRANDE, Calif. - Junior Margo Dionisio posted her best individual finish of the fall and the Cal State Northridge women's golf team placed second at the conclusion of the Lamkin Grip/Cal Poly Invitational Tuesday at Cypress Ridge G.C.

The Matadors opened with a team round of 326 on Monday before shaving off 16 strokes to finish Tuesday's final round with a 310. CSUN finished alone in second place at 636 just eight shots behind Santa Clara (628).

"It was a good way to finish the fall season," said head coach Bonnie Murphy. "We didn't manage the par-fives on Monday but we refocused and played better today. Now we'll take some time to get through finals, then regroup and work on some things and get ready for the spring."

Individually, Dionsio posted her best finish of the season as she placed fifth at seven over-par 153. In addition to her 10th-place finish at the Cowgirl Desert Invitational in October, Dionisio finished the fall with a pair of top-10 finishes as well as an 11th-place showing. She finished with rounds of 77-76 to tie with a pair of other players.

"Margo played well," said Murphy. "She really hung in there, the greens were so slick the entire tournament so that made it tougher for all the players."

Ellen Krausse and Kylie Kimura both posted improvements from round one to round two as Krausse went from an opening round 83 to a final round 75. She wound up tied for 11th at (+12) 158 for her second top-20 finish in four fall tournaments. Kimura also opened with an 83 on Monday but bounced back with a 76 on Tuesday to finish tied for for 14th at (+13) 159. Kimura finishes the fall with at least a top-20 finish in three of four starts.

Kendall Patten posted back-to-back rounds of 83 to finish tied for 33rd at (+20) 166 while Sharon Shin finished with rounds of 83-86 to finish tied for 48th at (+23) 169.

Santa Clara's Balbina Guajardo took home individual medalist honors with a two-round (+4) 150 which edged Amelia Ek of UC Riverside by one shot.
