Jackson State Slips Past Northridge, 73-65, at Great Alaska Shootout

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - The Cal State Northridge women's basketball team (0-6) lost, 73-65, Wednesday afternoon to Jackson State in The Great Alaska Shootout. Senior Whitney Ligon led four Matadors in double figures, scoring a season-high 17 points in the defeat.

At one point, the Matadors led 58-47 in the second half and tied the score at 65-65 following a 3-pointer from senior Ashley Blake. However, Jackson State scored the game's final eight points to pull away at the end.

Ligon was 6-of-10 from the field and hit two 3-pointers in the contest. She added three rebounds, two assists and a steal and block for Northridge. She is now averaging 7.8 points per game for the season.

Blake was the team's next top scorer, finishing with a season-high 14 points off the bench in 23 minutes of action. Her four 3-pointer tied a career high and she also dished out a season-high five assists in the contest.

Junior Kayla Rutherford was the team's third-leading scorer, finishing with 11 points. She was 3-of-8 from the field and hit a season-high four free throws in the contest. Freshman Neeta SreeKanth scored 10 points for the second-straight game, hitting a team-best six free throws for Northridge.

Senior Tonicia Tademy also put up some impressive numbers for Northridge, dishing out a team-high seven assists and posting a season-high nine rebounds. She is now averaging. 5.3 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game this season.

The Matadors led, 33-29, at halftime behind Sreekanth's 10 points. Rutherford had seven points at the break for CSUN.

Brianna Blunt led Jackson State with 16 points.

The Matadors head home for the Thanksgiving Holiday and return to the hardwood on Sunday, Nov. 30 when they travel to Westwood to face UCLA at Pauley Pavilion. The game is slated for a 2 p.m. tip-off and play-by-play coverage with Dave Caldwell will be provided on gomatadors.com.
