NORTHRIDGE, Calif. ---
All Matador fans are encouraged and invited to help send the Cal State Northridge women's basketball team to the NCAA Tournament Friday morning in front of Matador Hall starting at 7:30 a.m. The Matadors will head to Seattle to face South Carolina in the first round of the 2014 NCAA Tournament on Mar. 23 at 2:30 p.m. (PT) on ESPN and ESPN3.
The team will be available for a short meet and greet at 7:30 a.m. and the Matador dance team and band will be in attendance to help send the Matador to Seattle on a high note. There will also be a viewing party for the game on Sunday, Mar. 23 at The Pub on the CSUN campus starting at 2 p.m. (PT).
The Matadors defeated Cal Poly in the Big West Tournament Championship to earn the automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament. This is CSUN's first trip to the Big Dance since 1999 and its first representing the Big West Conference.
Junior Ashlee Guay became the first Matador in program history to receive her league's Player of the Year award and also added Big West Tournament MVP honors to her historic season. Fellow juniors Camille Mahlknecht and Janae Sharpe also earned Big West All-Tournament team honors while Cinnamon Lister was All-Big West Honorable Mention.
CSUN head coach Jason Flowers received his second Big West Coach of the Year award in three seasons this year and is one of 22 active head coaches to have played and coached in the NCAA Tournament.
