Career Night in Historic Win Nets Ashlee Guay Big West Weekly Honors

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. ---

Cal State Northridge sophomore guard Ashlee Guay has been the named the Big West Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday. In CSUN's historic 77-72 win over then No. 12 UCLA, Guay led all players with a career-high 28 points, 10 free throws and nine field goals to spur the Matador upset. 

Originally from San Diego, Calif., Guay finished 9-of-14 from the field and 10-of-12 from the free throw line in the Dec. 20 contest. Both the nine field goals and 10 free throws matched previous career highs and she also posted three rebounds, two assists and two steals in the win. 

The victory marked CSUN's first in its Division I history against a ranked opponent and was also its first victory over the Bruins. The win also was the Matadors' first over a Pac-12 opponent since the 1996-97 season.

For the season Guay is averaging a team-high 14.8 points per game, the fifth-high average in the Big West Conference. She leads the conference in assists per game, handing out 4.5 per contest over the first 10 games. Guay also ranks second in steals per game (2.8) and sixth in field goal percentage (.447) among all league players. 

This is the second time in the 2012-13 season that Guay has earned the conference's weekly award. She opened the year with 20 points, six assists and three steals in the season-opening victory over Portland.

Guay and the Matadors return to action on Saturday, Dec. 29 with a game at nationally ranked Oklahoma. Tip off between the Matadors and Sooners is slated for 1 p.m. (CT) // 11 a.m. (PT) and will be broadcast live on FoxSports West Primeticket.
