LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The Cal State Northridge Matadors (0-2) began their six game road trip in an unfortunate fashion as they were defeated by the Loyola Marymount Lions (2-0) by a score of 2-0 Sunday afternoon.

With both teams trading possessions throughout the majority of the first half, it was LMU that was able to score the first goal of the game in the 36th minute to take an early 1-0 lead.

Undaunted, CSUN remained aggressive on offense; shots by Camilo Rojas and Thomas Ramos taken before and after the goal respectively were the best opportunities CSUN created in the first half, chances that tested LMU goalkeeper Jack McCormack on both occasions.

Down 1-0 after after 45 minutes, Northridge remained patient, yet continued to look for that one opportunity to tie the game at one apiece.

But it was LMU that was able to find the back of the net once again when they doubled their advantage in the 58th minute.

Rafael Garcia nearly put the Matadors on the scoreboard when he weaved his way down the field and took a shot that caught McCormack off-guard and sailed just inches away from the left post.

Another scoring opportunity nearly came to fruition when Gustavo Villalobos found a seam in the Lion defense and took a shot that sailed wide of the net.

Combined, Garcia and Villalobos were responsible for seven of CSUN's 10 total shots and two of the team's four shots on goal.

Entering the game at halftime, Matador netminder Joe Scachetti kept his team in contention by making four quality saves, preventing Loyola Marymount from further extending their lead.

Both Brian Behrad and Majeed Shahin participated in their first game as a Matador, with Mattias Bonvehi, Nicholas Hamilton and Alberto Rosas each earning the starting nod for the first time this season.

CSUN's road trip will continue this Friday when the Matadors face the Washington Huskies in the inaugural game of the Third Annual Cal State Fullerton Tournament.
