A familiar foe makes its way down to Matador Soccer Field as the Cal Poly Mustangs head to the San Fernando Valley for the second time this season. The Mustangs are 10-8-2 overall and finished third in the Big West North Division with a mark of 3-5-2. Earlier this season, the Matadors defeated Cal Poly 3-1 at Matador Soccer Field and also eliminated the Mustangs from the Big West Tournament in the semifinal round last year 2-0. The winner between CSUN and Cal Poly on Tuesday night will travel to UC Santa Barbara on Friday, Nov. 15 for the semifinals.
Mackenzie Pridham leads Cal Poly and the Big West Conference with 14 goals and 31 points but was limited against UC Santa Barbra in the regular-season finale due to injury. Chase Minter is tied with CSUN's Beto Velasquez near the top of the league with seven assists. Overall, 13 different Mustangs have recorded at least one point and five have scored in double digits. Coming into the week, Cal Poly ties for first the nation in goals scored and is second in points while the Matadors lead the country with 122 points collected. Although they enter with one of the top offenses in the country, the Mustangs are on a two-match losing streak.

He has made 68 saves so far this season and has a 1.45 goals against average. As a team, the Mustangs have outscored the opposition 42-30 and are allowing 11.8 shots on average to their opponents.
The Big West Conference Tournament
The field has been set for the 2013 Big West Conference Men's Soccer Tournament, and the Matadors will need to win three matches in order to retain their title as Conference Champions. The tournament will open on Tuesday afternoon as UC Davis, the second seed from the North Division, hosts UC Riverside, the third seed from the South, at 2 p.m. Cal State Northridge will play its first-round match at home on Tuesday against Cal Poly at 7 p.m. The Matadors and Mustangs met last year in the postseason, as CSUN topped Cal Poly 2-0 at home in the Semifinal round of the conference tournament.
The winner of the UC Davis/UC Riverside match will travel to UC Irvine while the winner of the CSUN/Cal Poly match heads up to UC Santa Barbara for the semifinals. Both matches will be played at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 15. The Big West Tournament Final is scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 17 at 2 p.m. and will be hosted by the highest remaining seed in the tournament. For Cal State Northridge to host the final, the Matadors will need to beat both Cal Poly and UC Santa Barbara and have UC Irvine lose on Friday in the semifinal.
