NORTHRIDGE, Calif. -

Last weekend, members of the Cal State Northridge men's soccer team helped open the 2013 AYSO Region 795 Fall season by participating in the league's opening ceremonies. Head coach Terry Davila, along with a number of players, showed up in support of the league by interacting with teams of all ages.

"It is amazing to spend an evening with the coaches, volunteers and especially players that share the same passion for the beautiful game that we do at Cal State Northridge," said Davila. "Getting back to our roots and reconnecting with our early soccer days is an experience I and our players will not forget."

The Opening Ceremonies for the league, which serves the Chatsworth and Porter Ranch communities, consisted of a gathering of food truck vendors, a Hollywood-style photo booth and music by DJ Mario Ruiz. The event officially opened the new league season, which has teams for players between the ages of 4 and 18.

The Matadors, defending Big West Conference champions, took the time to meet with kids, take pictures and talk about being a collegiate soccer player.

"AYSO is a tremendous organization that is all about teaching children the game we love," added Davila. "Our players at CSUN are role models to the younger kids and they work hard each day to give back to our community."

Cal State Northridge opens its regular season by hosting the Ryan Rossi Memorial Tournament, which begins on Friday, Aug. 30. CSUN will play against the University at Albany Great Danes on August 30th at approximately 7:30 p.m. following the conclusion of the match between Cal State Fullerton and Memphis.
