Sauer Ties Course Record with Second Round 63, CSUN Eighth Through 36 Holes

LONG BEACH, Calif. - Cal State Northridge senior Kyler Sauer tied the course record with a second round 63 and is tied for second while the Matadors are eighth through two rounds of the Del Walker Intercollegiate Monday at Virginia C.C.

Sauer opened with a two over-par 72 before blistering the course with a seven-under 63 in round two. At five-under 135, Sauer is tied for second with Cal State Fullerton's Corey Gard. The Titans' Mark Anguiano carries a three-stroke lead into Tuesday's final round.

"Kyler hit the ball really well and you have to make putts to shoot seven-under," said head coach Jim Bracken. "Everything was clicking for him in the second round."

10 shots behind Sauer is the next Matador golfer, Michael O'Connor who is tied for 35th at five-over 145. O'Connor carded rounds of 74-71 on the par-70 Virginia Country Club layout. Dodge Ward is tied for 39th at six-over 146 following rounds of 77-69, Ryan Green, who opened with a two-under 68, is tied for 44th after posting a nine-over 79 in the afternoon and Oscar Sachs is 62nd at 15-over 155 after scores of 79-76.

CSUN also sent a pair of individuals as Aden Louez is tied for 50th at eight-over 148 after rounds of 73-75 and Sam Engel is 63rd at 16-over 156 after rounds of 76-80.

"Today was certainly an improvement from our last event," added Bracken. "One-under as a team in the second round is pretty solid so hopefully we can follow that up and make a move tomorrow."

The Matadors will tee-off beginning Tuesday at 8:30 a.m.
