Matadors Move Up to Ninth With 16-Shot Improvement at OGIO UCSB Invitational

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - After an opening team round 308, the Cal State Northridge men's golf team posted a 16-shot improvement in the second round and moved into ninth-place after two rounds Monday at the OGIO UCSB Invitational at Sandpiper GC. 

The Matadors sat 13th after the opening round 308 on Monday morning, then posted the third-lowest score in round two (292) to move into the top-10. Northridge is also just 11 strokes out of the top-five. 

Junior Chris Russo is tied for 15th-place to lead the Matadors through 36 holes. Russo opened Monday with an even-par round of 72 before posting a two over-par 74 in the afternoon. At (+2) 146, he is currently 10 shots off the lead and just two shots out of the top-10.

Sophomore Ryan Green is one shot back of Russo in a tie for 21st at three-over 147. Green opened with a (+6) 78 but rebounded with his best round of the season in the afternoon firing a three-under 69.

Senior Jason Rosenkranz also had a sizable improvement from the first to second round as he carded an 80 in the morning and an even-par 72 in the afternoon. Rosenkranz is currently tied for 45th at (+8) 152. Shane Blanchard is tied for 60th at (+13) 157 following rounds of 78-79, Steven Molumby is tied for 64th at (+17) 161 following rounds of 84-77 and Jared LeGrand is competing as an individual and is tied for 68th at (+26) 170 after posting scores of 81-89.
