March 11, 2009

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - In addition to installing a new backstop during the offseason designed to protect fans, while offering improved views and sight-lines at Matador Field, astute individuals will also notice a number of new uniforms that will make their debut during the 2009 season.

Created by Elite in conjunction with the Anderson Bat Company, the new uniforms are designed to provide maximum comfort and enhanced mobility for all players in any climate faced.

As worn during their home opener against Pepperdine, the Matadors will wear a pinstriped white uniform as their primary home outfit during their thirty-three home games taking place throughout the season.

During road games, an all-grey uniform will be used for most contests, while two alternative kits will be available for use when requested by the starting pitcher, or for tournament competition.

Red and black, the colors most synonymous with Cal State Northridge are the primary colors for the two alternative jerseys. the black uniform will feature the phrase "Northridge" in a font utilized by a majority of the athletic teams at Cal State Northridge, while the red uniforms will feature a unique "Matadors" script also featured on the pinstriped uniforms.

The primary grey kit will only have the letter "N" embroidered to distinguish itself from the other three uniforms.

Four different styles of hats will be worn by both players and coaching staff, contingent on the choice of uniform worn during each respective game.

A white, pinstriped had with a red letter "N" embroidered in a classic font will be worn in conjunction with their home pinstripe uniforms, a similarly designed black hat with red pinstripes will be worn with their black alternative kits, with a red and black hat being featured whenever the Matadors take the field in their red uniforms.

During the Cal State Northridge Athletic Hall of Fame weekend, the team chose to wear a replica version of the hat worn by the 1970 National Championship team to honor their induction into the Hall of Fame.

All three of the hats embroidered with the letter "N" will be worn while on the road as determined by the coaching staff and starting pitcher before every game.

With their 2009 recruiting class receiving a top-40 ranking nationwide by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper, the Cal State Northridge Matadors will continue their non-conference competition until they open up Big West play against their rivals, the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos, at Matador Field on March 27th.
