Players, Family Members, and Friends Help Make Alumni Barbecue a Success

Feb. 3, 2009

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - Over 60 alumni, family members, and friends returned to campus this past Saturday, January 30, to partake in the inaugural Matador Baseball Alumni Barbecue held at Matador Field.

Organized by the CSUN baseball team, the event provided an opportunity for current student-athletes to meet a number of former players who donned the red and black.

Media guides from a number of teams, as well as collages created to represented each of the last four decades of Matador baseball were on display for everyone to enjoy, baseball-themed inflatables were available for pitchers of all ages to partake and utilize, and a home run hitting contest was scheduled for all alumni to compete in.

Participants in the contest were divided into three different teams - 1979 & before, 1980-89, and 1990-2008 - with fences set up pertaining to each respective group to encourage a fair and competitive contest.

Amongst his peers who played for CSUN during the 1970's , Rich Reilly ended up winning the home run derby, joining Carl Davidson and Mike Paulk as winners in their categories - 1980's and 1900's-present respectively.

Matador ballplayers both past and present would end up congregating amongst one another sharing stories, experiences, and even a few tips and pointers before the event slowly came to an end.

Alumni who were not able to attend this year's event should circle their calendars for late January/early February of 2010 as the program looks to make the second annual Alumni Barbecue even bigger and better for everyone involved.
