Assistant Coach Tom Meusborn to Return to Chatsworth

CSUN baseball assistant coach Tom Meusborn will return to Chatsworth (CA) High School for the upcoming school year, head coach Greg Moore announced Friday. Meusborn, who spent the past season with the Matadors, will become the head coach for the program he previously led for 24 years.

"Day-to-day, DORS Baseball will miss Coach Meusborn's passion and knowledge," said Moore. "At the same time, he is so important to this Valley baseball community. I know that a few blocks away he continues to have that unique impact at Chatsworth High School."

"I'd like to thank Coach Moore for the opportunity of being on his staff," said Meusborn. "He's an exceptional coach and an even better person. The entire coaching staff was a pleasure to work with and DORS baseball is definitely on the rise."

Before his time at CSUN, Meusborn led the Chatsworth Chancellors to eight CIF City Section Division I titles and 19 West Valley League crowns. Under his guidance, both Matt Dominguez and Mike Moustakas were selected in the MLB Draft's first round after leaving Chatsworth.

In 24 seasons, Meusborn compiled an astounding 619-127-4 record, the best all-time in the state of California for a coach with at least 100 victories. His teams were also 67-16 in the playoffs. From 2003 to 2009, Chatsworth appeared in seven consecutive City championship games and his eight titles are most by a head coach.

In 2003, the Chancellors went 33-1 before putting together a perfect 35-0 record in 2004. After both seasons numerous publications declared Chatsworth national champions. In 2011, Baseball America declared Meusborn's program the best high school team in the nation over the first decade of the 21st century.

A search for Meusborn's replacement will begin immediately.

The CSUN Coaching Staff on Coach Meusborn

He taught us all something everyday he was here at CSUN, and he will be missed." -Jordon Twohig, Assistant Coach

"Chatsworth is getting again a great coach and an even better person. As a young coach on staff I learned so much from "the Maple Bar Man" this past season." -Riley Goulding, Director of Operations

"Coach Meusborn sets an example of continuous improvement. Whether at Chatsworth or CSUN it's about learning and finding ways to make yourself and the team better. If he would take my calls I would say 'thank you.'"  -Matt Hiserman, Director of Community Relations
