Two heated rivals face each other in men's soccer, and a top Pac-10 women's basketball team pays a visit to The Matadome to headline the many athletic activities taking place on the Cal State Northridge campus this week ... Soccer Story ...
Two teams that don't particularly like each other will meet again on Tuesday, Nov. 13, at 1:00 p.m. when Cal State Northridge and 2006 NCAA champion UC Santa Barbara meet in a Big West game at Matador Field ... The two teams have won all the Big West titles since the conference reinstated soccer in 2001 ... Last year before a capacity crowd at Matador Field, the game produced 12 yellow cards and three red cards as the Matadors dominated the Gauchos, 5-0 ... Earlier this year at UCSB, the Gauchos shutout the Matadors, 3-0, in a game that produced eleven yellow cards, 36 fouls and one red card ... You want tough, physical, hard-nosed soccer? ... Then come early, grab a good seat and watch what should be one of the better athletic events on the Cal State Northridge campus this year.

Did You Know ...
Louis Wilson, assistant men's basketball coach, has enough brothers and sisters to start his own team ... Wilson is one of ten children who was raised by his mother (Dolores) - (his dad passed away when Louis was four years old) in the South Bronx in New York City, only five blocks away from Yankee Stadium ... Without hesitation, Wilson can name his three brothers (Edward, Khalid, Saudrudin) and his six sisters (Sauda, Rashida, Nura, Debra, Charrisse, Darlene) ... The family moved to Anchorage, Alaska in 1976, and his old brother, Saudrudin (The Professor), is a prominent pastry chef who appears on The Food Network.

A key senior staff position in the Athletic Department has been filled with the appointment of Megan Marconi Norman as Director of Development ... Marconi Norman's position will focus primarily in the area of fund raising ... Since 2005, Marconi Norman has served simultaneously in the roles of Assistant Director of Major Gifts, and Assistant Director of the Imagine the Arts Campaign at Cal State Northridge ... Marconi Norman is no stranger to athletics ... She was a standout track & field student-athlete (school record holder in the high jump) at The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., where she graduated cum laude with a Bachelor's degree in Politics ... Marconi Norman also holds a Master's degree in Public Administration from Villanova University ... Cal State Northridge alum and season ticket holder Steve Pomerantz is one of the best fans of Northridge Athletics and his enthusiasm and support have not gone unnoticed ... Pomerantz was recently honored as the Outstanding Volunteer of the Year for the Athletic Department at the University's Volunteer Service Awards ceremony ... The Matador women's basketball team continues to extend its goodwill to the Northridge community with free girls clinics at The Matadome during the months of November and December ... The team recently partnered with the Mason Park YMCA to hold a two-hour clinic attended by more than 45 girls (ages 7-12) which taught the fundamentals of basketball in a fun environment ...
