The Week Ahead at Cal State Northridge ...
Matador men's volleyball team continues its quest for a possible NCAA title ... Bob Vazquez, Assistant Athletic Director for Media Relations, offers his weekly insights on the accomplishments of the teams, coaches, and student-athletes who compete for CSUN.

Matador Minute ...
When the opportunity to play one of the top basketball teams in the country presents itself, you jump at the opportunity ... That is what the CSUN men's basketball team is planning on doing ... Negotiations are nearing completion for CSUN to face Pac-10 power Stanford in a game at Maples Pavilion in 2008-09 ... Most likely the date will be in mid-November ... For years, Stanford has been one of the elite basketball teams, while Cal State Northridge, the 2007-08 Big West champion, is expected to field one of its best teams in school history ... The fourth-ranked CSUN men's volleyball team continues its quest for an NCAA title, but the road is getting tougher ... CSUN, seeded third in the MPSF Tournament, has reached the league semifinals and will face third-ranked BYU, which is seeded second on Thursday (4/24/08) at 8:00 p.m. at LBS ... In the other semfinal (5:30 p.m.), top-seed and second-ranked LBS hosts fifth-ranked and fifth-seeded Pepperdine ... The MPSF finals are slated for Saturday (7:00 p.m.) with the winner receiving an automatic berth to the NCAA Final Four at UCI (May 1-3) ... Stand up and cheer because Howard Garcia, CSUN's Athletic Events Manager for the past 26 years, has been honored by CSUN by being given a Work-Study Supervisor Motivational Award ... Garcia is an avid Angels fans, and knows the game of baseball ... Garcia played shortstop for Long Beach State in 1978-79 ... Congratulations to CSUN's leading basketball scorer Deon Tresvant, who was recently named team MVP ... Tresvant, who is expected to be one of the best long range shooters in the nation next year, almost quit basketball during his freshman season after his junior college coach suggested he couldn't play the game ... Tresvant, through hard work and the confidence of his father, refused to believe the coaches, worked extremely hard, never gave up, and now is one of the top players in the Big West, a great team leader, and will again be one of the offensive leaders on the Matadors in 2008-09.
