Raz and Milchiker Named Big West Scholar-Athletes of the Year
Men's soccer's Yossi Raz and softball's Sondra Milchiker are among 20 Big West athletes who have been honored as Scholar-Athletes of the Year, the conference announced Monday.
The ten male and ten female recipients were chosen by their individual schools for outstanding achievement in athletic competition, academics and community involvement.
Raz was captain of the Cal State Northridge men's soccer team in 2002. He led the team with 11 assists and 25 points in his sophomore season in helping the Matadors to a 14-5-2 record and the sport's first NCAA postseason appearance in the Division I era. He also earned first team All-Big West Conference honors for the second consecutive season after being named Freshman of the Year after his first season at Northridge. Raz is a business major.
Milchiker is a co-captain of the softball team. In 2002, she earned All-Big West second team honors after hitting .314 with five home runs and 28 runs batted in as a sophomore. Along with her on-field accomplishments, Milchiker also earned academic honors as a Cal State Northridge scholar-athlete, and was named to the Big West Academic team and the Verizon Academic All-American District VIII second team. Milchiker made the dean's list (3.5 GPA or higher) in Fall 2002 and is a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Council. Milchiker is a psychology major.
