NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - One of the nation's top women's water polo players, Marisa Young, has signed a national letter of intent with Cal State Northridge.
Young will enter CSUN in the Fall of 2011, according to Matador head coach Marcelo Leonardi.
Young is currently a senior at Fountain Valley High School and also plays for the Huntington Beach Water Polo Club.
"Marisa brings tremendous size, strength and speed to the center position," said Leonardi, who coached the Matadors to a 28-8 record last year and a national ranking as high as ninth. "She has great hands and can finish her shots. She will make an immediate impact to the Cal State Northridge program next year."
According to Leonardi, "Marisa has the potential to follow in the foot steps of several great centers who have played through the Matador program."
Last year at Fountain Valley HS, Young, who plays center, earned numerous post-season honors including first team All-Sunset League.
Not only is Young an outstanding water polo player in the pool, academics are also a strong asset in her resume. Young currently boasts a 4.41 grade point average (gpa), ranking her in the Top five percent of her senior class. She was just named an USA Water Polo Academic All-American.
"We are excited about Marisa's addition to the Cal State Northridge water polo program," beamed Leonardi. "She will continue to set standards for our program, academically and athletically."
