Ten CSUN Water Polo Players Earn Post Season Honors

Northridge, Calif. - Ten members of the Cal State Northridge water polo team were honored for their play during the 2011 season at the recent year-end banquet.

In alphabetical order, Chelsea Curran, Whitney Delgado, Melissa Doll, Jessica Goforth, Dana Harvey, Leah Janke, Lindsy Nelson, Heidi Pettinger, Bethany Scamara, and Sydney Sonoda were given eight different awards.

Rookie of the Year - Melissa Doll, Lindsy Nelson
This freshman duo combined for 75 goals with Nelson scoring 41 goals ... Nelson also led the team in assists (49) ... Doll's 31 steals were third-best on the squad.

Most Improved Award - Leah Janke The sophomore enjoyed her best season with 27 goals along with 47 assists (#3 on the team).

Most Inspirational Award - Chelsea Curran, Brittany Scamara
Although injured much of her four year career, Curran ended her career with 95 goals, tenth-best in the school record book ... Scamara, although a reserve for her career, was a great team and inspirational player.

Most Outstanding Performance - Whitney Delgado
The junior led the Big West Conference in scoring for a second straight season ... Delgado scored 76 goals, second-best for a single season and only four short of her school record set last year ... Delgado now has 191 career goals, second-best in school history.

Red Cap Award - Dana Harvey
The junior was third in the Big West Conference with 202 saves (9.85 spg) ... Harvey's 202 saves were seventh-best for a single season in CSUN history.

Coaches Award - Jessica Goforth
The redshirt senior tallied 25 goals, 36 steals (#2 on the team) and 22 assists.

MVP Offense - Sydney Sonoda
The senior finished the year with 53 goals, sixth-best in the Big West Conference and ninth-best for a single season in school history ... Her career 143 goals is fifth-best in school history.

MVP Defense - Heidi Pettinger
CSUN's #2 scorer with 62 goals, second-best in the Big West Conference and fifth-best for a single season in school history ... Has scored 103 career goals, ninth-best in school history ... Tops on the team in field blocks (20), steals (42) and assists (51, #5 for a single season).
