#16 Cal State Northridge Hosts #15 UC Santa Barbara in Big West Contest

Northridge, Calif. - Two first place teams in the Big West Conference collide on Saturday (4/9/11, Noon) when #16 Cal State Northridge hosts #15 UC Santa Barbara in a Big West Conference game at Matador Pool.

Cal State Northridge (19-11, 2-0) will face a UC Santa Barbara team (19-8, 2-0) that is ranked 15th in the nation, has won seven straight games, is 2-0 in conference play and has posted its most number of wins (19-8) since the 1997 campaign when the Gauchos chalked up a 20-15 record. The seven straight wins have been by an average margin of five goals.

Cal State Northridge has won five straight games to raise its season record to 19-11 overall and 2-0 in league competition.

The game will feature the league's Top 4 scorers. CSUN's Whitney Delgado and Heidi Pettinger are 1-2 in conference scoring with 66 and 54 goals, respectively. Sydney Sonoda is fourth in scoring with 45 goals. Kathryn Nelson leads UCSB in scoring with 48 goals (#3 in the league) this year in addition to being first on the team in steals (33) and field blocks (10).

The CSUN/UCSB game also features two of the top three goalkeepers in the Big West Conference. Ruth Milne, UCSB's starting goalkeeper, has started all 27 games and is averaging 12.1 saves per game, tops in the Big West Conference. Milne has collected ten or more saves in 16 games including a season-best 16 against second-ranked California. CSUN's Dana Harvey is third in the league in saves at 10.00 per game (145). Harvey has tallied ten or more saves in seven games including a season-high 21 saves against Indiana (1/22/11).

At 5 p.m., Cal State Northridge will host Cal Baptist in a non-league game. Before the game, several graduating seniors will be honored including Nicole Concialdi, Bethany Scamara, Chelsea Curran, Sydney Sonoda and Jessica Goforth.
