Northridge, Calif. - The nationally-ranked Cal State Northridge women's water polo team finally makes its 2010 home debut when the Matadors play two games on Thursday, March 11, at Matador Pool.
At 2 p.m., the Matadors face Wagner College (Staten Island, NY) and Occidental College at 6 p.m.
At 4 p.m., Wagner and Occidental will face each other.
Because its first home games of the 2010 season, the team will individually greet each fan as they enter Matador Pool.
The Matadors are enjoying an excellent season with a 15-5 overall record, and a national ranking of tenth, according to the latest Collegiate Water Polo Association poll.
This week's Collegiate Water Polo Association poll find the Matadors ranked tenth nationally ... It is the second straight week CSUN has been ranked tenth in the country ... USC remains the top team in the nation followed by Stanford, California, five-time defending NCAA champion UCLA, Hawai'i, Arizona State, San Jose State, Michigan, Loyola Marymount and Cal State Northridge ... Other Big West schools ranked are UC Santa Barbara (11th), UC Irvine (13th), UC Davis (15th) and Pacific (17th).
Six Cal State Northridge players find themselves fighting for a spot in the school record Top 10 for career goals ... Senior Kirra Kylander had 81 career goals, good for eighth place in the record book ... Junior Sydney Sonoda has 78 goals, tied for ninth place with Lynzy Klein (2004-06) ... Sophomore Whitney Delgado has 77 goals for the tenth place position ... Just short of the school record Top-10 for career goals is junior Chelsea Curran with 72, senior Renee Gargiulo with 67, and senior Kristin McLaughlin with 66.
Whitney Delgado continues to produce great offensive statistics ... Only a sophomore, Delgado already has 77 goals which ranks in tenth place in the school record book ... Delgado tallied 35 goals in 36 games last year, and this year already has a team-leading 42 goals in just 20 games ... Delgado has scored at least one goal in 18 of the 19 games she has played ... At last weekend's Cal Lutheran Invitational, Delgado produced a career-high six goals against sixth-ranked Arizona State. ... For her efforts (13 goals in four games at the Cal Lutheran Invitational), Delgado has been voted Big West Water Polo Player of the Week ... It is the second such honor for a Matador player this year ... Earlier this year, senior All-American Jillian Stapf gained Big West Player of the Week accolades.
Reserve goalkeeper Nicole Concialdi is getting a chance to play... Concialdi tallied 38 saves in four games at last weekend's Cal Lutheran Invitational ... Concialdi started the last three games ... Her 15 saves against Pomona-Pitzer were career-highs.
