Irvine, Calif. - Whitney Delgado is rapidly gaining the attention as being one of the top women's water polo players in the country.
Only a sophomore, Delgado has enjoyed an All-American type season thus far with a team-leading 42 goals on the nationally-ranked Cal State Northridge squad. Her 42 goals have come in only 19 games played, compared to the 35 goals she scored last year in 36 games.
Last weekend at the Cal Lutheran Invitational, Delgado scored 13 goals in four games, including a career-high six goals against sixth-ranked Arizona State.
For her efforts, Delgado has been named Big West Water Polo Player of the Week.
Delgado becomes the second CSUN women's water polo player to gain such an honor during the 2010 season. Earlier this year senior All-American Jillian, Stapf was named Big West Player of the Week.
Delgado now has 77 goals in less than two seasons at Cal State Northridge. That ranks eleventh in the school record book Top-10 for career goals.
Delgado will lead tenth-ranked Cal State Northridge when the Matadors hosts Wagner and Occidental on Thursday, March 11, at the Campus Pool. The Matadors will face Wagner at 2 p.m., followed by Wagner vs. Occidental at 4 p.m., and then CSUN vs Oxy at 6 p.m.
Admission is free.
