Northridge, Calif. - It was a career day for San Jose State's Juliet Moss. Moss collected a school record seven goals to lead the ninth-ranked San Jose State women's water polo team to a 14-6 victory over 15th-ranked Cal State Northridge in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) game on Saturday afternoon at Matador Pool.
Jessica Coy provided the scoring punch for the Matadors with three goals including a first period goal at 2:11 that gave the Matadors a 2-1 lead. Kirra Kylander opened the scoring at 5:55 with her 16th goal of the season.
But four straight second period goals by the Spartans, including two by Moss, gave the visitors a 5-2 lead. Allison Brookes broke the string of Spartan goals with her team-leading 36th goal of the season to make it 5-3 at halftime in favor of San Jose State.
Moss was unstoppable in the second half as she scored four goals including three in the fourth period.
The loss dropped the Matadors to 10-15 overall and 1-8 in the MPSF. San Jose State is 12-10 overall and 4-5 in league competition.
Cal State Northridge returns to action on Saturday (4/12/08, 11:30 a.m.) at seventh-ranked Arizona State. The following day, the Matadors return home to face sixth-ranked San Diego State at noon.
