Westchester, Ca. - Senior Jessica Coy scored four goals, including the game winner in the third period, to lead the 11th ranked Cal State Northridge women's water polo team to a 6-5 victory over Princeton during first day action on Saturday morning at the Loyola Marymount Invitational.
Princeton jumped to a 3-1 first period lead, but freshman Whitney Delgado keyed a second period Matador rally with two of the team's three goals. Cal State Northridge held Princeton to only one second period goal. Both teams went into halftime tied at 4-4.
Coy, who is the team leader in goals with 35, scored both of CSUN's third period goals to give the Matadors a 6-5 lead. Coy scored the go-ahead and game winning goal at 2:08.
Neither team scored in the final period.
Jillian Stapf recorded ten saves in goal for the Matadors including six in the final period.
Cal State Northridge, 11-12, plays later today (4:40 p.m.) against Sonoma State.
